FORTEC STAR 5900 Digital Satellite Receivers

Fortec Star 5900 satellite receiver

NOTE:

Print these instructions for your reference

Dish Alignment Quick Start:

Free To Air Stationary Satellite SystemsStationary Dish Instructions:

  1. Assemble your dish.

  2. Mount your dish on its mast.  Make sure mast is 100% vertical and solid.

  3. Calculate your Azimuth, Elevation, and LNBF Skew for your location here:  http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Installation/Satellite-Heading-Calculator.htm

  4. Make sure you compensate for magnetic deviation.

  5. Turn your dish towards the correct Azimuth and hand tighten screws.

  6. Adjust dish Elevation to correct value and hand tighten screws.

  7. Mount your LNBF on your dish and tilt the LNBF to compensate for polarization skew.  For example, if you are aiming the dish at IA5 97W:

    • In Columbus, OH: LNBF should be turned 16 degrees counter clockwise when facing the dish.

    • Los Angeles:  30 degrees clockwise

    • New York:  30 degrees counter-clockwise

  8. Connect your receiver to the LNBF using RG6 coaxial cable.  Make sure the receiver is "OFF" when you do that.

  9. Turn your receiver "ON"

Motorized Dish Instructions:

  1. Assemble your dish.

  2. Install your LNBF on your dish.  Do not tilt or skew the LNBF

  3. Follow the instructions on how to setup your motorized system: http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Installation/HH-mount-installation.htm

Receiver Quick Start:

Pic 1

Pic 2

Pic 3

  1. The highlight will be on "Dish" in the Channel Search menu screen (Pic 1). Click OK on the remote.

  2. The receiver is setup by default for IA5 (Telstar 5) and UNIVERSAL LNBF (Pic 2).  Leave all the settings as is.

  3. Now adjust your dish alignment until you see the “Signal Quality" bar appears (Pic 2).

  4. Note: If you don't see the Signal Quality bar that means your dish is not aligned to the correct satellite.  Only when you have a perfect alignment to the desired satellite is when you will see the Signal Quality bar as shown in the pictures above (Pic 2). The signal strength will always display some activity even if the dish is not aimed at the satellite correctly.

  5. Once you have the highest signal strength and signal quality possible, press OK on the remote to save and go back to the previous menu.

  6. Scroll down Automatic and click OK (Pic 1)

  7. Select Telstar 5 by clicking on OK (Pic 3).

  8. Scroll down until you reach the "Scan Free Channels" (Pic 3) and press OK.

  9. A new screen will show the scan progress.

  10. When the scan is completed, the receiver will save the data and restart.

Note:  To update and add new transponders to this receiver,

follow the step by step instructions here.

Congratulations, you just loaded your receiver!

While the installation is not difficult, it does require that you have some experience in electrical wiring and minor construction techniques. Also, you may have to climb a ladder, so you'll want to be comfortable working with heights.  Most of our customers have successfully installed the satellite system by themselves.

Installation of the system is entirely your responsibility.  Guidelines and tips provided on this website are intended to help you achieve a successful installation of your new satellite system. You are advised to consult a professional installer if you need more support.

Professional Installation is recommended if you have difficulty locating and locking on your favorite satellite. After you have purchased the satellite system, you may contact a professional to install the system for you. There is a fee for installation.  You can also look in the local yellow pages under "satellites" for local installers in your area.

Congratulations, you just loaded your receiver!
